Puto Bumbong

Ingredients

  • 1 Pack (400 grams) glutinous rice flour
  • 2 Packs (115 grams) Ube powder
  • 2 ½ Cups of water
  • Brown sugar
  • Banana leaves
  • Grated coconut

Utensils

  • knife
  • lampin
  • sifter or strainer
  • 2 pcs bamboo tube (bumbong)
  • steamer for making puto

Method

  1. Get your steamer ready to steam with just the right amount of water. Boil water and cover.
  2. In a big enough mixing bowl, combine glutinous rice flour and ube powder. Make sure to mix well.
  3. Add water little by little til this combination turns to dough. Combine in a kneading motion til it’s smooth.
  4. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the dough. Using your hands, roll into a round and long shape, about 4 to 5 inches long.
  5. Smear butter in a heat-resistant plate and arrange the dough evenly, side-by-side. Steam for about 4 minutes or until soft.
  6. Using a pastry brush, generously smear  butter on top again and roll in dessicated coconut , topping it off with brown sugar.
