“We Didn’t Realize How Special a Private Chef in Our Bali Villa Would Feel”

When we booked our Bali villa in Canggu, we imagined slow mornings by the pool and sunset cocktails overlooking the ocean. What we didn’t anticipate was how much of our trip would revolve around logistics — booking restaurants, arranging drivers, coordinating dietary preferences for six adults and two teenagers.
On our third day, my sister casually said, “Why don’t we just get a private chef in our Bali villa?”
At first, it sounded extravagant. But after a quick search and a thoughtful conversation with Chef Juan, it began to feel like the most natural choice we could make.
He didn’t overwhelm us with options. Instead, he asked about the purpose of the evening. Was it celebratory? Relaxed? Formal? We told him it was simply about spending time together — uninterrupted.
On the evening of the dinner, he arrived quietly and began preparing in the villa kitchen as if it were second nature. There was no sense of intrusion. Just calm professionalism.
The first course was light and vibrant — fresh herbs, citrus notes, and a beautifully composed presentation that immediately elevated the tone of the evening. For the main course, he prepared a refined grilled dish for the meat lovers and an equally thoughtful plant-based option for my sister.
Everything felt intentional.
But what truly made the experience remarkable was the atmosphere. No restaurant noise. No waiting for the bill. No rushing to free the table for the next guests. Just the eight of us, seated around our villa’s long dining table, laughing under soft lighting.
By dessert — a delicate tropical creation that balanced sweetness with freshness — we were still talking, still present.
Hiring a private chef in a Bali villa didn’t feel like a luxury add-on. It felt like the way the villa was meant to be experienced.
When friends ask us what the highlight of our Bali trip was, we don’t mention beach clubs or excursions.
We mention that dinner.
