“We Stayed in a Luxury Resort — But Hiring a Private Chef Ubud Bali Was the Real Highlight”

When we booked our stay in Nusa Dua, we assumed the resort’s restaurants would be the highlight of our trip. The property had multiple dining venues, a curated wine list, and impeccable service. But by our third evening, we realized something was missing.

Privacy.

We were traveling with close friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. While the resort dining was excellent, it felt public. We wanted something more intimate — something that felt like it belonged to us.

So we began searching for a private chef Ubud Bali, even though we were staying in Nusa Dua. We discovered that many villa and retreat chefs operate from Ubud but travel across the island. That search led us to Chef Juan.

From the beginning, he felt different. Instead of pushing a pre-set menu, he asked about the purpose of the dinner. Was this formal? Relaxed? Did we want wine pairing suggestions? Were there dietary considerations?

We told him we wanted something refined but warm — not stiff fine dining, but elevated comfort with structure.

He created a multi-course menu that blended Western grilling techniques with Asian influences. The starter was light and beautifully plated — fresh herbs, citrus, and subtle spice. The presentation immediately elevated the tone of the evening.

For the main course, he prepared a perfectly executed surf and turf, paired with seasonal sides that felt thoughtful rather than decorative. Every element had intention.

What impressed me most was his composure. Resort kitchens are large and equipped; villa kitchens are not. Yet he worked with precision and calm focus, adjusting seamlessly to the space.

By dessert, the mood had completely shifted. We weren’t in a luxury resort anymore — we were in a private culinary experience created specifically for our group.

If you are debating between resort dining and bringing in a chef, I would strongly recommend hiring a chef for villa Ubud who understands both refinement and adaptability.

The restaurants were excellent.
But that evening in our private suite — that was unforgettable.
